Wilhelmina Blanche “Sally” Meister - 92. It is with
sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Wilhelmina
“Sally” Meister, New Ross. She passed away at Grand View
Manor, Berwick, on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Born in The Forties, New
Ross in 1917, she was the youngest daughter of the late David and
Edith Hiltz. She was predeceased by her husband, Otis in 2008. She was
the last surviving member of her immediate family. Sally is survived
by a daughter, Leona Sweeney (Richard), Halifax; sons, Robert (Joy)
and Frank (Beatrice), both of The Forties. She is also survived by
eight grandchildren, David (Stephanie) Sweeney, Brian (Pam) Sweeney
and Catherine Wigglesworth (Todd), all of Halifax; Jeffery (Joanne)
Meister and Gary (Bernice) Meister, both of Kentville; Mark (Bertha)
Meister, The Forties; Kevin (Shelly) Meister, Yarmouth; Neil (Deanna)
Meister, Halifax. Great grandchildren are Jesse and Larissa Sweeney,
Emma Jean Sweeney, Justin, Logan and Grace Wigglesworth, Rachel and
Katlin Meister, Alicia Hiscoe (Rory Reeves), Brendon, Chantel and
Cory Meister; a great-great-grandson, Braxton; many nieces and
nephews. In addition to her parents, Sally was predeceased by a
daughter in infancy, Amy Edith; sisters, Mary Eliza Reid, Hattie Allen
Hiltz, Annie Josephine Hiltz, Bertha May Gates, Lillian Gertrude
Spidle, Maggie Laura Hiltz, Adelaide Viola Dirago, Susan Matilda
Johnston and Jennie L. Shea. She was also predeceased by brothers,
Robert William Hiltz and Frank Albert Hiltz, both causalities of the
First World War, Herbert Henry Hiltz and Howard S. Hiltz. Sally was a
life-time member of Saint Augustine's Anglican Church, The Forties,
where she served as Treasurer for many years as well as a Guild member
and taught Sunday school for a number of years. She also represented
the Parish of New Ross at Diocesan Synod for many years. (If being
Anglican has anything to do with going to Heaven, Mom will surely make
it!) There will be no visitation, by family request. The funeral
service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2009 from St.
Augustine's Church, The Reverend Gordon Neish officiating. Burial in
the family plot, Saint Augustine's Cemetery. Reception to follow at
The Forties Community Centre. Family flowers only, by request. If
desired, donations may be made to Saint Augustine's Church, 60 Red
Rock Road, RR 1 New Ross, NS B0J 2M0 or Grand View Manor. Special
thanks to The Reverend Gordon Neish, Mrs. Neish and family for their
love and support, to the staff of Grand View Manor for their excellent
care during Mom's last days, and to Dr. Don Seaman for his wonderful
