Mr. Sidney A."Sid" Merrett
Sidney Archibald “Sid” Merrett - 49, of Port Williams, Kings County passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at home. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of Myrtle (Strong) Merrett, Port Williams and the late Ernest “Ernie” Merrett. He attended school in Port Williams, Horton High School and the Kings Regional Vocational School. He had been employed as a mechanic for 28 years and later worked as a lobster fisherman. He enjoyed fishing, plowing snow, landscaping, camping and had been the caretaker of St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery for 28 years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion, Myra Baxter; a son, Mike, Port Williams; a sister, Marcia (Ron) Elliott, West Brooklyn Mountain; five brothers, Robbin (Sheila), Centreville; Allen (Louise), St. John’s Newfoundland; Kendall (Angela), Kentville; Milton (Kim), Centreville and Sheldon (Tina), Port Williams; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Mark. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service followed by a reception will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 in the Port Williams United Baptist Church, Reverend David Ogilvie officiating. A private family burial will take place in St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Church Street, Kings County. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the EHS Paramedics, the RCMP and all those providing care and support during this difficult time. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of your choice.
