Dr. D. Peter Dockwrey

1948-2012

Dr. D. Peter Dockwrey - 64, of Kingsport, Kings County, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully Friday, December 14, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with family and friends by his side.  He is survived by his loving spouse, Bonnie Elliott and stepson, Jason Covey; his mother, Ardath and his sister, Anthea (Mary) Dockwrey and many, many friends. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Ardath and the late George Dockwrey.  He was raised in Sydney and attended grade school there before relocating to England where he attended Barnard Castle School, County Durham and, later, Christ’s College Cambridge where he earned B.A. and M.A. degrees with first class honours followed by his PhD. in History.  Dr. Dockwrey devoted his life to the vocation of teaching and taught in many university settings in Canada, England and France the most recent being in the Political Science Department at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish.  His love for art especially drawing cartoons was a lifelong pursuit. Peter did art for the reason that art should be done- for the amusement of his friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of Peter’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 in St. John's Anglican Church, Parish of Cornwallis, Port Williams, NS. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff in the Intensive Care Unit at the Annapolis Valley Regional Hospital who took extraordinary measures to comfort and support Peter and his family and friends throughout their time there. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
