Vincent John Maxwell
1929-2013
Vincent John Maxwell - 84, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Born on February 19, 1929 in Upper Sackville, he was the son of the late William G. and Harriet V. (Swallow) Maxwell. He received his early education at the Maxwell School and after serving 25 years in the RCN, he retired with the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration, the Canadian Centennial Medal and the NATO Special Service Medal. Following retirement he lived and worked in the Bridgetown area for several years before moving to Coldbrook. He was a member of Scotia Lodge No. 28, a member of Philae Temple Shrine in Halifax and the Eastern Valley Shrine Club, a member and Past Patron of Evangeline No. 15, Order of Eastern Star, a member of Orchard Valley United Church, a former member of the Senior Men's Club of Glooscap Curling Club and a volunteer at the Valley Regional Hospital Gift Shop. He is survived by his wife, the former Irma Rafuse; a step daughter, Sherry (David) Jennison, Canaan; a step son, Kirk (Bonnie Daye) MacKenzie, Eastern Passage; sisters, Dorothy Chase, St. Croix; Mary Little, Middleton; and Claire MacFarlane, Hammonds Plains. He was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth and Neil; sister, Evelyn MacLeod; step-son, Bruce MacKenzie. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a combined Masonic and funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiating. A reception will follow. Burial will take place in the Berwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in care of Philae Temple, Halifax or the Valley Hospice Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
