Mary Glen Stirling
1927-2013
Mary Glen Stirling (Keirstead) (Routliffe) - 86, formerly of New Minas, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 in the Wolfville Nursing Home, Wolfville. Born in Greenwich, N.S. on May 30, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ronald McNeill and Margaret Barss (Stackhouse) Keirstead. A registered nurse, graduating from the Yarmouth School of Nursing, she was a Sub.Lt. in the Royal Canadian Navy as Nursing Sister at bases in Halifax and Cornwallis, N.S. She resigned her commission to marry. She also graduated from "Mack's Business School" as a stenographer. She worked in Montreal at both professions, and in Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa, and Wolfville at nursing until her retirement. As one who did enjoy music, she sang with the "Sweet Adelines Ladies Barbershoppers" as well as the Wolfville Baptist Church choir. She did volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia for several years, and was a devoted member of the Wolfville Baptist Church, and loved working with the Social and Benevolent Society of the church. She enjoyed walking, swimming, curling, crafts, painting, and people. Besides her beloved husband Robert D. "Robbie", she is survived by a dearly loved daughter Kathryn Jean "Kathy" Routliffe, and her husband Robert J. "Bob" Berlien, and grandson Andrew L. McN. "Andy" Berlien of Chicago Ill. USA; and dearest son Warren McN. "Mac" Routliffe, Upper Sackville N.S. Also surviving are step children Jane Stirling (Elliot Redeker), Calgary, Alta.; Anthony Stirling (Audrey), Centerville N.S.; Marilyn Hiltz (David), Kentville, N.S.; Blair Stirling (Brenda), Gagetown N.B.; Bonnie Stirling (Burnette Clowry), Hantsport N.S.; and Joel Stirling (Dianne), Moncton N.B., and their families, as well as nephews Robert Scammell (Debra), Calgary; Glen Scammell, Ottawa, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, and her loving sister Margaret "Peggy" Scammell, and husband John Scammell, as well as John A.R. Stirling (Maria), Aylmer Que. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday October 31, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Wolfville Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Barry Morrison and Reverend Fran Woodside officiating. Burial will take place in the Willowbank Cemetery in Wolfville N.S. Family flowers only. Donations can be made to the Christian Blind Mission International, the Wolfville Baptist Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
