Florence Alexandra Forsythe
1915-2013
Florence Alexandra Forsythe passed away on Saturday 14 December. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Mackenzie of Truro, NS. Born in Malagash, the family moved to Truro in her early years. Educated in Truro, she studied typing and shorthand at the Success Business College, attended the Provincial Normal College where she took the two year Home Economics course, graduating as a dietitian from the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. She continued her studies at the St. John General Hospital, NB, and took the Institutional Management course at Columbia University, New York City. She was the first dietitian at the Colchester County Hospital in Truro, and taught Home Economics in Digby and Wolfville schools. She was predeceased by her first husband David A. Purves, and by her second husband Roy G. Forsythe. Predeceased by sisters Hazel (Ronald) Roach, Frieda Mackenzie, Anna Mae (Donald) Fulton, and brother William "Bill" (Winnie) Mackenzie. Survived by her brother Donald (Hazel) Mackenzie, Ottawa. She is survived by son James David Purves (Lin), grandchildren Melanie (Daniel) Regehr, Heather (Brian) Mackenzie and Craig Purves, great-grandchildren Tommy Oliver, Samantha Regehr, and step grandchild Yaqian (Cheryl) Zhao. She leaves her sister-in-law Nickie Purves (widow of Corson Purves) as well as stepchildren Gary (Sandra) Forsythe, Douglas (Marsha) Forsythe, Mary Lou Forsythe (Ken Wendland), and step grandchildren Kari-Anne Forsythe (Peter Glazier), Stephanie (Todd MacAllen) Forsythe and Jonathan Forsythe. Also step great grandchildren Logan and Ayden Glazier. Thanks are due to Tony and Heidi Sampson and their staff at Wedgewood House, Kentville, for their wonderful care and support in her last months. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Robie Street (Truro) Cemetery at a later date. Any donations in her memory may be made to charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
